HOW MY PLACEMENT START
Commencing my placement at Synergy Studio on October 3, 2023, offered me an immersive experience in the realm of innovative fashion. The small yet dynamic team comprised Simon, a visionary and the company's creative director / owner, steering it toward success, and James, a talented junior designer contributing his creative flair.
Synergy Studio stands out by crafting unique garments that boast vibrant designs and colors, drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of queer fashion. The clientele predominantly revolves around the entertainment industry, catering to the diverse needs of celebrities
, TV shows, live performances, and movies. The studio prides itself on a comprehensive array of services, ranging from bespoke tailoring to crafting show-stopping performance wear. Their offerings extend to ready-to-wear collections, ensuring that their clients shine not only on red carpets but also at various events and occasions.

SINRGY BOARD
in Synergy Studio, with a small team, I didn't have a specific role. I performed tasks based on their requests, ranging from hand stitches to using tools like a drill. The process typically involved an initial inquiry about my previous experience and confidence in the assigned task. Once clarified, they provided instructions on how to proceed. Upon joining the studio, the focus was on crafting costumes for a drag client from England, set to participate in a competition. The orders, themed by the USA's Drag Race show, included a variety of garments, and the team was diligently working on their preparation
MY FIRST TASK : SILVER BOOBS
my initial task was to craft breast frames, ensuring the seamless attachment of transparent plastic hemispheres with silver rhinestones in a continuous row, covering the entire surface without any gaps.
This process took about 7-8 hours.

2ndTASK : OSTRICH SLEEVES
The next task was to sew ostrich feathers in the form of a strip onto the sleeve of another dress. I had to sew them in layers, incorporating light shades of cream to dusty pink.

3rd TASK :
In this challenging and time-consuming stage, Simon designed one of the dresses for his client featuring a galaxy theme. The dress is crafted from black fabric adorned with green, blue, and purple colors, along with bright spots. It boasts a long, trailing skirt and a voluminous puffy collar and sleeves. My task was to design small translucent balls with rhinestones, symbolizing planets. These planet symbols were then attached next to the collar, and the entire process took about 16 hours.

4th TASK:
At this stage, I was tasked with preparing a corset sample. Initially, I applied facing to the back of the cut pieces, made from vinyl fabric. Following that, I connected each piece to another using PVC binding tape. The significance of executing this work with precision was paramount, aiming to avoid any inadvertent needle hole marks on the fabric resulting from inaccurate sewing.
FINAL TASKE
The last task presented both a significant challenge and excitement for me. My assignment was to craft a helmet, with Simon having created the prototype earlier. The helmet itself required construction by connecting blue resin pieces using wire. To achieve this, I employed a 1mm drill bit to create holes in the resin parts for subsequent wire connections. Initially, when I used blue wire, the visible quality was unsatisfactory. Faced with dwindling materials, an idea struck me, and I shared it with Simon: the use of a steel ring instead of wire. This concept resonated well with the audience, aligning seamlessly with the overall design. Simon embraced the idea, and as I implemented it, the final result proved to be quite impressive.

The mentioned tasks were significant aspects of my role during my placement at Synergy. In addition to these, I undertook tasks such as lengthy data gathering and intricate hand-embroidering of clothing interiors. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture photos due to the confidentiality of the garments. My experience at Synergy was highly rewarding and enjoyable. The work environment was small, beautiful, neat, and energetic. Working with Simon and James was a stroke of luck, given their respectable personalities and friendly demeanor. They patiently addressed my questions, shared valuable experiences, and opened a new door to the fashion world for me.
